Sushi, Steaks, Sounds & Serenades

The Starters

The Japanese listening lounge trend has burned slowly in Southern Nevada (RIP 365 Tokyo). But Lake Las Vegas (of all places) is about to get one of their own. Chef Roman Allen (of Saffron Lounge) posted that Sumiko is currently in its build-out phase at that mysterious village by the water. Chef promises fresh fish for its 8-seat “Omakase-style” sushi bar, plus music-forward listening lounge vibes throughout. We love sushi. We love music. Driving? Not so much. But we honestly hope that this unique spot will convince us to make the trek to Far East Henderson.

Sunday is Father’s Day. You’re welcome. And speaking of listening lounges… Downtown'Echo Taste & Sound is staging a Retro Father's Day Brunch, featuring one of our fave classic Vegas protein bombs — Steak & Eggs! — plus live music from Cayce Andrew. Other Father’s Day moves? Al Solito Posto will featurerare bourbon  cart and an 8oz Australian Tenderloin…  And for dads who want to level-up their at-home barbecue game, Chef Bruce Kalman is hosting a virtual grilling class, walking eager pops through a special menu, teaching live-fire cooking, and offering real-time feedback.

Add Pride Month to the things you may have overlooked. The good news? One of our Arts District faves didn't. Ada’s is offering a special prix fixe $65 “family meal”  through June. Much like the lost, lamented Discoshow, this is a participation party, so everyone at the table must buy-in. You can add $20 for a wine  pairing, and $10 from each meal is donated to the Trevor Project.

Spilling the Tea

A relatively non-descript dive bar in an off-Strip strip mall recently celebrated its 50th anniversary — a major milestone few spots can claim in our city of rapid reinvention. The humble-but-humming Stage Door has served generations of blue collar workers, hospitality helpers, stagehands, and tourists. After all, who can ignore its (selected) $2 beers and (what some call) the best bar hot dogs in town? …

The Twelve Days (!!) of Restaurant Week may have ended, but a few restaurants have extended their special deals (and donations to Three Square Food Bank, we presume) through this Friday, June 19. At the Palms, all of its participating restaurants — Scotch 80 Prime, Send Noodles, Serrano Vista Cafe, and Palms Pizza —have extended the specials dishes, at $30–$100 per person. At Fontainebleau, Chyna Club, Don’s Prime, Komodo, Kyu, and La Fontaine all continue their special three-course meals. And off-Strip, check out Bar Boheme, High Steaks, Gaetano’s, and Soulbelly BBQ for a closing charitable taste — until 2027, anyway…

Pet Peeve of the Week

When the bussers take things from your table and put it on another dirty table instead of taking the plates away.

Order of the Week

Mediterranean Style Omelet @ 1228 Main

Downtown breakfast done right. This folded Mediterranean Style Omelet is packed with goat cheese, tomatoes, olives, arugula, and tomatoes — bursting with fresh flavor to remind you omelets don’t have to be boring. It arrives fluffy, loaded, and paired with crispy breakfast potatoes that often disappear before the second cup of coffee. If your usual brekkie order is feeling a little too usual (or, heavy), take this as a sign to switch things up.
