Food News Leftovers

  • Roy Choi is the notable chef behind the movie Chef, its namesake food truck, and Best Friend at Park MGM. Despite two Strip spots, he may not be finished with Las Vegas, as he’s quietly hinting at a third MGM Resorts project.

  • Five Guys burgers recently sparked chaos with a BOGO anniversary deal that went viral — overwhelming stores and employees. Their CEO admitted they “really screwed up” and then dished out $1.5M in bonusesto workers who did their best to handle demand. Costly? Yes. Accountability? Yes. Publicity? Yes!

  • A sweet deal for logging off, as Chick-fil-A flips the script! Here’s the deal: If you stow your phone during dine-in you score free ice cream 🍦😋. It’s all about getting people to talk to each other again. Screen time? Down. Soft serve? Up!

  • A high-end cocktail bar popping-up in a high-end cocktail bar? We’re meta-intrigued. The RJ reports Bellagio’s hideaway The Vault will host The Aviary by Michelin-star chef Grant Achatz in May, raising expectations of what is an already exclusive booze experience. 🍸

Spilling the Tea

A newish Arts District bar had the Main Street scene buzzing Sunday after its Saturday night bartender reportedly went full “I’m out.”✌️

The barkeep apparently hit their breaking point ⛓️‍💥 (maybe after one too many late-night Reddit spirals 😵‍💫), ditched the bar mid-shift, and left a handwritten note that simply read: “I quit. Fix your sh*t.”

No goodbye shots. No two weeks’ notice. Just pure, unfiltered Las Vegas service industry energy. Cheers… with whatever’s left in the well.

Pet Peeve of the Week

I hate it when you begin the dining experience with someone on the staff saying..."Sorry, we are busy/short handed/someone called off tonight, etc." The short sighted restaurant staffer thinks they are CYA for inferior service. All they did was cast a dark cloud over your experience before it starts. –John C (Not Curtas)

Smash Avocado Toast @ PublicUs

It opened on far East Fremont in 2015 and was quickly hailed as “America’s Best New Café.” Still, PublicUs remains oddly under the radar for most.

With house-baked everything and a notable coffee program, it definitely shouldn’t. ✨ Just check out this phenomenal avo toast — light, flavorful, and exactly what you crave when you’re cosplaying “healthy” 😏 💥
